לדעת תורה

פרשנות ודרשנות על פרשיות השבוע היו פופולריות בכל הדורות. כל בר-אוריין, כל יודע ספר, קורא את התורה כפי זמנו, מקומו ונטיותיו, וכל הקריאות כשרות וראויות בבחינת שבעים פנים לתורה. אשר לי, אינני חוקר מקרא; תחום התמחותי הוא מחשבת ישראל, על-כן אין הספר הזה משקף מחקר אקדמי, אלא כתיבה אישית, במגמה לחשוף את המשמעות שאליה כוּונו הטקסטים של התורה בהיכָּתבם, וזאת באספקלריה של חוקר מודרני המאמין בקדושת התורה והינו שומר מצוות.

לשם כך נקטתי את דרך הפשט בפרשנות – קריאה פרשנית ראשונית (על דרך הביאור) ורעיונית של הטקסט, קריאה המנסה להימנע ככל האפשר מהבנה ספקולטיבית, תהא זו מיסטית-קבלית, פילוסופית-איזוטרית, או מדרשית. הבָנות כאלו אינן מייצגות, לדעתי, את משמעות הטקסט אלא את המשמעות שהדרשן מנסה להעביר במודע לשומע ולקורא.

To Know Torah

In recent years, many books have been published on the weekly Torah readings; the unique feature of this book is its consistent attention to the simple meaning (peshat) of the text, and the breadth of its knowledge (comprehensive exposition with abundant details and multiple opinions), its ability to pick a side in the convoluted web of commentaries, and its honesty (bravely confronting questions and difficulties). Students of Torah who are seeking intellectual, ethical or spiritual challenges will find them in this book.
